After graduating from Russell, I attended Georgia State College and graduated in 1963. While at Georgia State, I met my wife Laura and we have been married (and best friends) for over forty five years. Upon graduation, I received a commission in the U.S. Army and orders to serve in Germany. Laura and I were married so we could live together in Germany. Living in Germany is, I guess, where our life of adventure began. As a Special Weapons Officer, I was based in a sparsely populated area and when Laura was to give birth to our daughter Georgianna, she was flown to the hospital in a helicopter gun ship!
Following my discharge from the Army, I returned from military leave to continue my career at Delta Air Lines where I retired in the mid nineties after thirty two years. Most of these years were spent in the Finance Division managing such different areas as Salary Administration, Payroll, and finally Pensions and Employee Benefits. During this time and during retirement we have taken full advantage of the flight benefits provided us and have traveled extensively. When discussing what to include in this, "Bio," we counted 46 countries that we have visited.. Since retirement, we have become involved with an adventure travel company where travel is off the beaten path to see how the people really live. We have visited many third world countries such as Nepal, Laos, and Burma (Myanmar) and have had such adventures as visiting a village in the mountains of Northern Peru and eating guinea pig right off the grill with a native family, fishing for and eating piranha in an Amazon jungle wilderness camp and riding an elephant deep into the Chitwan jungle in Nepal (Too scary!). We have eaten strange foods such as camel and llama, and tasted many unidentifiable items from street venders in the third world.
We have been season ticket holders for UGA football since our daughter started there in 1982. Her family also has tickets - in fact, she met her husband at one of our tailgate parties - and each Saturday in the fall we tailgate with thirty or forty friends and family. A great way to spend an autumn Saturday!
Georgianna and her family live only a few miles from us and are a very important part of our lives. Our son in law also works at Delta and, as a family, we have taken many trips together as our granddaughter, Madison (age 15) has studied different parts of the world. We are fortunate to have a second home on Jackson Lake and it is the main summer gathering place for Madison and her friends. Northing is better than hearing the constant laughing of young people enjoying the lake!
Since retirement, I have worked with an independent company putting on Labor Relations Seminars allover the country, usually five to seven weeks a year - great fun and a great group of friends.
Our family has been extremely fortunate and we have enjoyed a wonderful life of Love, Laughter and Adventure
