home of the wildcats
In August, Joyce and I will have been married forty-seven years. Blessed with a son and two daughters: Alan, Dana and Terese, each have married wonderful spouses. Alan and Yvette have two sons. Jade and Terese have three sons. Dana and Scott enjoy spoiling their nephews and traveling. Our children and five grandsons live near us on a thirty-five acre track of land on a country dirt road in Fayette County. We lived in a house I built for us forty-three years ago. We recently sold that house to our son. Our move did not take us far, we moved into the 125-year-old homestead that once belonged to Joyce’s parents. The renovated farmhouse continues to be a work in progress.
Although I worked at two plants Dettlebach, a subsidiary of Orkin and then Asbery Ferst a subsidiary of Scripto my interest has always been in construction. When I lost my job at Asbery Ferst as plant manager I immediately went into construction. I built homes in Fayette County and Coweta County. Although I had subcontractors working for me, I enjoyed getting in there doing some of the work myself. This does not always happen when you are building several houses at one time.
Life has changed I have had several surgeries on my joints. I am presently (5/18/09) recovering from hip replacement surgery. I will be undergoing another hip surgery in three to four months. After recovering, I am taking my boat to Florida and doing some fishing. Fishing and golfing are my favorite hobbies. We enjoy spending time on Georgia’s coast and Florida’s St. George Island. At times, we have our family with us and at times, it’s just the two of us. I am a member of the North Fayette United Methodist Church where I am an usher and serve on the finance committee.
